MyDD :: Virginia: Obama 49% McCain 42%

Hell yeah. I really want to grab Virginia this year and have thought it possible for a while. It's good to have some evidence to support my hopes and confidence.

Obama does better in California. Yet they both win California, as they both do Pennsylvania.

Sorry, bud, but this isn't 1996. The times, they are a changin', and so is the electoral map.

I just posted a long response to this, which failed to post. So, here's the short version. Obama is stronger in many swing states (IA, WI, MI, CO, OR, WA, NM, VA and NV) while Clinton is stronger in others (OH, FL, MO, and AR). These polls show a very slight Clinton advantage at best (though, I don't concede that for a second), which isn't going to be enough to motivate supers to override Obama's enormous lead in pledged delegates. And, if Clinton does secure the nomination via superdelegate coup, expect her GE polling numbers to drop. It would be reckless for superdelegates to move heavily to Clinton on the basis on polling strength in OH and FL in May, when things are very likely to change--especially given that her nomination would certainly cost her some support among Obama's most ardent supporters.

One related phenomenon, also, is that currently Obama's lower numbers in some states might reflect the natural anger and disappointment among Clinton supporters, most of whom would be inclined to support Obama under any other circumstances that didn't involve defeat of a candidate they love. I find it incredibly irrational for a Clinton supporter to prefer McCain to Obama. However, it's understandable given the emotional investment of supporters during this historic primary. Hopefully, many of these Clinton supporters will warm up to Obama over time (some likely will not, of course), and I'm willing to work hard toward that end. But, frankly, Clinton supporters are not making it easy.

they're still winnable. She doesn't do so much better that it's worth giving her the nomination even though she lost the delegates.

The poll with the VPs is silly, though. It won't be Edwards, and probably won't be Huckabee.

Yep. Why would they even bother including Huckabee in there anyway? If McCain picks Huckabee as his VP nominee, I'll eat a squirrel. The GOP doesn't want outright civil war.

Awesome. And I approve of the tabs here. Of course, there's no way Jerome'll change the map to give this to Obama, but the second a positive Clinton one comes out that shows her at a tie in New Zealand, he'll post that immediately. Just wait.

Looking at the Electoral Map, all he has to do is flip Wisconsin, or Michigan, or Missouri, and he leads McCain. Not all of them, only one.

once of the greatest things I saw, well funny is more appropriate, but for the first time HRC supporters are saying polls 5 months out don't tell us anything.

do not see the irony? dismissing good Obama polls because we are 5 months out, while at the same time arguing that the Q poll makes her more electable? THIS is why the supers will never move on this argument, her camp is so obviously hypocritical on it, ignore good polls for Obama, and only focus on the good polls for us.

I have decided to only speak positively about my candidate. Thus, I must say that Obama and his campaign have been saying all along that he can change the electoral map and force the GOP to compete everywhere. This poll will be dismissed by the GOP, but internally they are worried. NC is in striking distance and GA could be too as Chuck Todd said today. McCain has neither the money, staff or volunteers to fight all over the country. As long as we are unified and active (and I am very fired up!) we can't lose.
