Obama, please. Don't throw Craig under the bus

The last person I predicted to go under the bus was Jim "Subprime" Johnson. In my diary, some here called me "concern troll" because of this, but I was vindicated when Johnson "resigned" the same day.

By the way, some of you may argue that he was not "thrown under the bus", but Howard Fineman saw it that way, as reported by MYDD Diarist Todd Beeton:

On MSNBC a few minutes ago, Howard Fineman broke down why Obama had to cut Johnson loose:

Obama picked as his top VP vetter a guy who was a very symbol of the world that Obama claimed to want to change and that's what bit him here and that's why he had no choice but to get rid of him, in part because Jim Johnson...raked in a lot of cash from his various government-related jobs, especially the one at Fannie Mae.

I even posted a poll in which a majority said to believe Johnson would stay in his job.

At any rate, today, the Politico reports that Miami Cubans are angry that Greg Craig, who defended Elian Gonzalez' father in 2000, is one of Obama's top advisers.

What they won't tell you is that two thirds of Americans, according to polls, agreed with the Justice Department's decision to send Elian back to Cuba, to his home, with his dad, where he belonged .

Craig will most likely be thrown under the bus as well, but we can stop this from happening. Contact the Barack Obama campaign and convince him that Craig has done nothing wrong.

McCain hasn't sacked Black why should Obama sack him.
Obama should tell them to get lost. He shouldn't cave into everyone of their demand.

Greg Craig is clearly a very ambitious job-seeker, as shown by his eagerness to play the attack dog on the Northern Ireland issue during the primary. While he was clearly on the right side of the Elian controversy, in my estimation, I sure won't shed a tear regardless of how this plays out.

I'm confused. If this is such a volatile issue, then why did Clinton run strongly in head-to-heads with McCain in Florida? Surely the anger would have been directed at her in greater intensity.

top to bottom, from rank and file to the leadership. They've been working Florida for 25+ years. That does pay dividends. Heck, Hillary retained most of the black leadership in Florida until the day she dropped out. People don't like to hear it, but the downside of being new is that you're new. "New" cuts both ways - - no baggage, but no roots.
Plus, remember all those put downs of Hillary supporters in Florida as too beholden to AIPAC and the Cuban lobby? There's a reason they do it. D'uh.

it would be a mistake. not a colossal one, but a mistake. You don't separate the kid from his father...that's not family values. Once the father was determined to be a fit parent, it was not up to anyone else, especially the US Government, to decide where he raised Elian.

Let's not presuppose. Obama dropped Johnson once because he thought it was the right thing to do, then when they started going after the others, he got wise. The Greg Craig thing is just desperate, and getting angry at a guy for defending somebody is silly.

Besides that, I'm thinking Greg Craig, one of the premiere political defense attorneys in the country, can defend himself quite adequately.

If you're being chased by an angry bull and then you notice you're also being chased by a swarm of bees, it doesn't really change things. Just keep on running.
